Abstract

Objective To systematically review the research progress in pharmaceutical care assisted by artificial intelligence (AI) during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, clarify its developmental trajectory, core values, and future directions, and provide references for establishing a standardized and efficient application system of AI in pharmaceutical care.

Methods Computer searches were conducted in Chinese Academic Journal Databases, WanFang Data, and VIP database to collect literature related to AI-assisted pharmaceutical care, covering the period from 2021 to 2025. CiteSpace 6.4.R2 and VOSviewer 1.6.20 were used to construct a research framework encompassing key research areas, evolutionary trends, major collaboration networks, distribution of research resources, and emerging frontier directions, followed by visual analysis.

Results A total of 1,512 articles were included in the study. The number of publications on AI-assisted pharmaceutical care exhibited a three-stage increase: slow growth from 2021 to 2023, accelerated expansion from 2023 to 2024, and explosive growth from 2024 to 2025. Co-occurrence analysis of keywords identified six high-frequency terms with ≥50 occurrences, among which pharmaceutical care (565 instances) and AI (176 instances) ranked highest. The co-occurrence network comprised 273 nodes and 1,102 connections, forming eight major clusters. The institutional collaboration network comprised 198 nodes and 184 links. Burst keywords such as geriatrics and training highlighted trends toward precision medicine, specialization, and grassroots-oriented approaches.

Conclusion The study results provide theoretical support for the standardized and efficient application of AI in pharmaceutical care, offering practical reference value for advancing the digital transformation of pharmaceutical care.
