Objective To analyze the stability of compound menthol nasal drops under different packaging materials and storage conditions.
Methods GC method was used to determine the contents of camphor and menthol as the primary evaluation indicators. The variation patterns of camphor and menthol were investigated in nasal drops packaged in five different materials and stored under two different conditions. Statistical analysis was performed using Minitab 21 software.
Results The contents of both components in nasal drops of all packaging types gradually decreased over time. Among the 5 tested packaging materials, polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles from a specific manufacturer showed the best performance. Furthermore, the PET bottles effectively maintained the stability of the two components under different storage conditions.
Conclusion Different packaging materials have a significant impact on the stability of the target components in this preparation. PET bottles from the specified manufacturer are recommended as the optimal packaging choice. It is also suggested to revise the official storage instructions to store in a sealed condition. Statistical analysis serves as an effective tool for evaluating the quality of this formulation.
